4 Air Conditioning Problems to Look Out For

We love our air conditioners and expect them to keep us cool in the hot summer months. That’s why we need to give them some tender loving care. Regular maintenance and air conditioning repair can help you keep your air conditioner working so you won’t feel hot under the collar. Here are four air conditioning problems to look out for.

  1. Dirty Filter:  Clogged and dirty filters (because there weren’t changed regularly) is one of the biggest reasons air conditioners, whether window unit or central air quit working.

Dirty filters reduce the air flow, but also result in the air conditioner freezing up. Always refer to the owner’s manual and follow the manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations.

  1. Breakers, Fuses and Capacitors:  Three common safeguards of air conditioners are breakers, fuses and capacitors which not only provide safety from overheating, it sends power to the motor. If any of these are not working properly or burns out, the air conditioner won’t work its best either.
  2. Thermostat:  The thermostat controls the temperature in your home. Many thermostats are programed to maintain a comfortable temperature 24/7.

If the thermostat isn’t maintaining the proper temperature, the unit could be dirty, not level or affected by direct sunlight and need to be replaced.

  1. Compressor:  The air conditioner’s compressor provides energy to the refrigerant and sends it thought the unit’s coils. It the compressor is blocked or isn’t working; the air conditioner cannot do its job. If there isn’t enough refrigerant, the compressor will overheat and quit working.

These are only four problems that could require air conditioning repair. For all others, contact your HVAC company.
